March 25, 2012 by Chris Unitt

In August, Birmingham Opera Company are going to stage Stockhausen’s five-hour epic Mittwoch aus Licht (Wednesday from Light). Get this: Featuring real helicopters, two choirs, octophonic sound, numerous musicians, the Radio 1 DJ Nihal and requiring two separate performance halls, this will be the first time that all six parts of the opera have been staged … [Read more…]

Wasted

March 24, 2012 by Chris Unitt

This happened the other day but I only just came across (listings sites are available for Birmingham – CiB isn’t one of them). I’m posting it anyway, partly because it looks like it was an interesting thing and partly because it’s so frustrating trying to find out what’s coming out of FEED that I’ll take what I … [Read more…]

An update from Lee Basford

March 21, 2012 by Chris Unitt

I’ve had an update from Lee Basford who works over at Fluid and thought I might as well just copy/paste it in here: We’ve just finished an animated trailer for the new Sega game Hell Yeah!  A completely Birmingham based project between ourselves writing, directing and art directing (and partly illustrating), Stevie Copter from Newtasty helping with … [Read more…]

Fried chicken seasoning. And an album

March 20, 2012 by Chris Unitt

Our 2nd LP, “Faith’s Meat Kiosk“, is coming out on 23rd April 2012 and to celebrate we’ve teamed up with Birmingham’s wonderful Jack Rabbit and created our very own Fried Chicken Seasoning. As you do. Excellent lateral thinking from Friends of the Stars. Actually, while I’m the subject, now’s as good a time as any to shoehorn … [Read more…]

Go and see Life is a Dream

March 19, 2012 by Chris Unitt

Last night I saw the dress rehearsal of Birmingham Opera Company’s Life is a Dream. Dayus Square

March 19, 2012 by Chris Unitt

The junction/square/roundabout/free-for-all where Albion Street, Legge Lane and Carver Street all meet (in the Jewellery Quarter) is now called Dayus Square. This appeared the other day: It’s in memory of Kathleen Dayus, a writer whose books were set nearby. The BBC and Birmingham Mail have more info.
