I picked up a flyer for the New Art Birmingham art market on March 15-18th because it was very pretty and noticed that the venue is Curzon Street Station. If you’re not familiar with the name it’s this building in Digbeth:
While the building has a fascinating history as the first railway station linking Birmingham to London and is a striking part of the Digbeth landscape it has laid dormant for years now and access to the public has been fleeting. Occasionally it is used for events, notably the 7 Inch Cinema / Capsule shindig at Artsfest last year, but any chance to get inside has to be leapt at.
So, while the art market is bound to be well worth a visit there’s now another incentive. You’ll also get to see the petrified cat.

I hear access may be a bit more regular in future if the Birmingham Conservation Trust‘s plans come to fruition.
It wouldn’t surprise me if they were involved but it does seem like the station is a bit cursed. I reckon we won’t see any concrete moves to develop it until the Big Park is finished.
Oddly, for such an imposing building, it’s really small inside thanks to the massive staircase. That might be why no-one wants to occupy it.

A free site by piczo where I show some of my art, and see it in focus, collectively, allowed 250 pics but had 200 of my art on at any given time, minimalist, modernistical and few abstract and contemporary. but on four occasions took them off. over the weeks they were on. and just putting on a few more now again, hits 350. what ever they are. showed my email, had attempts to breach paypal with false passwords, but failed paypal neither any one else holds any money we have none. This site looks well out of date. another red herring. Have caught the bus to south yardley over many years by this place. never thought of it as a art gallery. why more space for art, space alreay got never seems to be used for birmingham visual artists, emails never get answered. total disinterest given, I have lost count of emails sent. most to be answered from, (are blocked by a dog, microword every time. but even our own emails get no answer. “Why”. amazing. custard factory, Antika, no answer, and others, one a gallery (art), there ,the same. amazing,Even Saatchi london. images sent 8. did not get through??? perhaps It would be better sending to america, like Conan Doyle USA copyright.Sherlock Holmes author. My interest is that my gg grandad was manager of this place in 1901… surely the restoration of St Pancras (the other end) should have an impact on the revival of this beautiful building. I think its in peril and needs to be a focus for art and history for the city.
