The Challenge of Change was an event about the future of West Mids theatre. All the notes have been written up and presented quite nicely on this website.
I’ve only had a glance through the discussions and the proposals put forward but the Birmingham European Theatre Festival sounds interesting. A lot of discussions seem to feature the question ‘Do we need an equivalent of Theatre Bristol?’ (which could be very nice) but, as I said before, I think the idea of everyone taking The Pledges is a good starter, mainly because it depends on no-one else.
Exactly Chris, there is little as unedifying as a room full of people wanting something to be done for them by someone else. If you believe in it enough do it yourselves!
The pledge cards now exist in real life. We will be starting distribution of them at tomorrow night’s big Theatre Party.
I remain unconvinced that Theatre Birmingham is anything but a waste of cash. Theatre makers shouldn’t be walling themselves off in a ghetto, we should be using CiB more fully and making our own sites work harder.
LET’S DO IT OURSELVES.
