7inch Newsletter

Every month the 7 Inch Cinema folks send out a newsletter highlighting not just what they’re doing but a whole slew of other stuff they think is cool. As such it’s kinda essential and a perfect example of what could go on a blog. They’re in touch with the local scene and they have a mission to tell the world about it. It’s a no brainer really. Ian from 7 Inch has told me they’re working on a blog strategy but it can’t hurt to reiterate to others in their situation how simple and effective blogging can be. It doesn’t have to be integrated into your existing site – the two have pretty different purposes really so a link between them will do. Just set up one for free on Blogger or WordPress in a minute or two and start throwing content at it. A good example of this is Ten4 magazine with their fancy showcasing website and more useful blog.

In the meanwhile here’s the July 7inch newsletter all hyperlinked up for your enjoyment.

Elsewhere in the festival you can find Mogwai, Sunn 0))), Om, Kling Klang, Pharoah Overlord and Big Fun (maybe).

Hi Pete – slightly OT here – I note you use both WordPress and Blogger. Why do you employ both? And what system do you think is best overall? A short answer will suffice, as I will research the WordPress site extensively before (if) I change allegiances. Ta, Ken.

  2. WordPress has all the features if you want them, so I use that here and on my own blog. Blogger is simple less feature-rich. Both “do the job” in that they structure your stuff and provide the requisite outputs. If you just want to write it’s much of a muchness really.

  3. I use WordPress because it allows you to add various extra plug-ins and allows you to host your blog on your own web server if you want to do more advanced things or have your own web address instead of something standard like myname.blogger.com

In general – Blogger is a good place to start if you don’t want to have to deal with anything technical and don’t have any needs to do anything very out of the ordinary – just writing good content.

WordPress.com is the blogger equivalent – instant setup, easy to post and manage content and you get a blog at myname.wordpress.com

At WordPress.org there is a free downloadable version of the software for people who feel comfortable with technical things or who want to customise their blog to a large extent.

This option allows you to use your own web address.

Some hosts come with WordPress already installed – http://wordpress.org/hosting/

    Hope some of that helps…
