Creative Alliance is pleased to announce that recruitment for its third and final cycle of Makers and Shapers is now open.
The highly successful programme, led by well renowned Business Development Advisor Percy Emmett, was launched early last year by Creative Alliance a consortium of highly successful Birmingham-based arts organisations of regional, national and international repute. Creative Alliance works within the creative and cultural industries, growing a pool of knowledge, experience and networks for practitioners to access.
The programme has been developed as a response to the gradually changing landscape of activity in the regional cultural sector, in an effort to create an infrastructure to support creative producers and enable their business development. There are currently a small number of experienced creative producers in the region and all of them work at or beyond their capacity. Makers and Shapers aims to help creatives develop their business ideas, either helping to create a strategic approach for an existing company, or to take an embryonic idea and help give it life. It’s a very in-depth process with respect to developing business plans, business models and cash flows and therefore the programme runs for 4 months, with a full group session bi-weekly, supported by a 1 hour personal tutorial on the opposite week.
On this programme we will offer 14 budding creative producers/entrepreneurs 72 hours of core learning towards an accredited level 3 Award in Arts enterprise, alongside 10 hours of individual one-to-one mentoring with a business development advisor, to enable them to develop skills in realising creative projects and preparing them for self sustainable roles within the creative industries sector. This mentoring time will allow the creative producers to map the skills they have learnt on the qualification to the work of existing creative producers working in the region, in an effort to demystify the processes involved.
The creative producers will have access to a range of knowledge, creative and practical experience and resources, built up by the Creative Alliance, its partners and associates over the last 15 years.
Only by sharing good practice and disseminating good work models can we build the volume of arts producers in the region and engender new development opportunities in the arts.
