IN:SIGHT at Washington Green Fine Art

Birmingham based Washington Green Fine Art has announced the list of artists for IN:SIGHT 2015, its campaign to cultivate the rising stars of today’s visual arts world, the shortlist include Hope Chapman a Birmingham-based artist.

Born in Oxford, Hope Chapman relocated to Birmingham to study Fine Art at the Margaret Street School of Art in 2010. Working in Pitt ink pen on paper, Hope creates detailed pointillism portraits of unnamed models photographed by the late fashion photographer HelmutNewton. Hope’s other influences include contemporary artist Laurie Lipton’s drawings and traditional Tibetan mandala designs.

Hope said: “Newton’s photographs are a luxurious documentation of past decades. Fashionable, empowering, elegant women are portrayed in semi-erotic settings, inspiring me to create luminous, vivid portraits. I have combined the forceful aesthetic with detailed, structured drawings using the accuracy and patience of traditional Tibetan mandalas. For me, dot work is a meditation.”

The exhibition is on at Castle Fine Art until the end of the month.

  1. I’m not actually as short as the last piuctre of the three of us makes me out to be. I don’t know why I bent at the knees, but I’ll own it as best I can because the moment has come and gone. Just know I am 5’7 (167.5 cm or 1 meter 67 cm).
