Seemingly born from the ashes of ArtsFest and Four Squares Festival, Birmingham City Council and Birmingham Hippodrome bring you Birmingham Weekender “A free arts festival for all the family”.

Birmingham’s major arts organisations will celebrate the city through music, dance, theatre, food, fashion and much more. Birmingham Weekender marks the opening of the newly transformed New Street Station and coincides with Style Birmingham Live and the Rugby World Cup.

Birmingham Weekender will embrace the brilliance of local and international arts and artists, providing an opportunity for residents and city visitors to enjoy two amazing days out. From dance performances at the top of the city’s car parks to a magnificent orchestra of bell ringing that will play out above the city to a large-scale musical picnic, visitors will find wonderful sights, sounds and tastes around every corner.

Several of the events were announced this week including:-

  • Requiem by Birmingham Contemporary Music Group, to be performed in a shop window
  • Open Draw, a free-moving sketchcrawl (promo image above)
  • Imagineer’s Godiva Odyssey, a six metre tall puppet making its way across Birmingham

The full programme isn’t available online yet, but if you want to keep up to date with Birmingham Weekender you could like them on Facebook. Printed programmes will be available over the summer.
