The Loft Birmingham is a new pop-up open studio space in The Square Shopping Centre on Corporation Street / Dale End. Their mission is to enable a platform for emerging independent creatives in the West Midlands to host their projects, exhibitions, events and workshops. From their facebook ‘about’:
We’ve placed a large emphasis on the idea of collaboration and the importance of it in most of the projects we want to implement in the city with The Loft acting as the brokers in the process of all the projects. By combining all of the differing individual designers into one body, one collective unit, together we can achieve much more. With The Loft and other organisations we believe we could create a strong platform and opportunity for creatives and working with the community to tackle and overcome barriers between the Arts and the general public in Birmingham.
They’ve had a lot of activity in the Loft space since their opening in February, including DB84 & the Cannon Hill Collective’s workshop entitled ‘Unanswered Questions’ exploring social issues in Birmingham, Lux, a photography exhibition by BIAD Photography students and an open afternoon with two fine artists discussing and exploring 3D scanning methods.
