Still Walking Festival
Birmingham’s Festival of Walking, Still Walking festival, is back Friday 14th March – Thursday 20th March.
The Still Walking outlook is that there’s a lot to discover in the city and guided tours are a great way to do this. Our programmes highlight the many layers of the city and just how differently people see their surroundings. Still Walking guides are often new to guiding – knowing your onions is what really counts.
This year they have programmed one walk a day, and the full programme is out and available to view on their website.
I really like the sound of Roxie Collin’s CORNERED! (The Social Life of Corners) but that evening I’ll be at the Stirchley Community Market, which is back for a mini-market at Loaf Community Bakery.
Art SOAK
Arts Forum Selly Oak return with the third annual Art SOAK festival, an arts festival which takes place in South Birmingham across the Selly Oak District (including Selly Oak, Bournville, Stirchley, Walkers Heath, Brandwood and Billesley.)
The festival is part of Birmingham City Council’s Cultivating Culture, Local Arts Showcase month.
Be inspired and revived as Spring approaches by immersing yourself in the local arts scene with workshops, theatre, comedy, spoken word and music performances, a park installation and library exhibition.

Arts & Science Festival
Arts & Science Festival will return for its second year, running Monday 17th March – Friday 21st March.
The festival will be a lively programme showcasing culture, research and collaboration at the University through talks, exhibitions, performances, workshops and screenings.

Flatpack Film Festival
Flatpack Film Festival returns (with added F) on Thursday 20th March, for ten days.
In case you’re unfamiliar with Flatpack Film Festival:
Flatpack started life in June 2003, as a ramshackle monthly filmnight at the Rainbow pub in Digbeth. It has since grown into an annual celebration of film that takes over venues all over Birmingham every March, described as “joyously inventive” (the Guardian) and “magnificently eclectic” (Time Out).
The printed programmes in their full glory will be available across Birmingham early this week, and I can’t wait to get my hands on a copy. You can flick through it online here on ISSUU.

Supersonic Festival
Whilst I’m here talking about upcoming festivals in March, I thought I’d give a little shout-out to Supersonic Festival which returns for a ‘ltd edn’ weekend on 30th/31st May.
Back by popular demand and after a successful 10 years of existence, Supersonic Festival return and are taking the event back to its core values by curating ‘Supersonic Festival Ltd Edtn’ an intimate two day event. On 30th and 31st May, Capsule present Supersonic Festival Ltd Edtn and shall return to the Custard Factory where it all began.
There are only 400 tickets for this special weekend, so if it hasn’t sold out already then get in there quick and I’ll see you there!
