Come Heavy Sleep by Kindle Theatre

Kindle Theatre, one of the most pioneering theatre companies in the UK, present their new show Come Heavy Sleep, at Birmingham Repertory Theatre for two work-in-progress performances on 13th and 14th December 2013 at 7.45pm.

Come Heavy Sleep is a passion-fuelled murder story that takes inspiration from Shakespeare’s Othello. This performance tests ideas that will eventually develop into a large-scale ensemble spectacle, fronted by the band The Come Heavies with bold choreography, chopped-up narrative and stunning visuals. The music moves from 16th Century Lute to Noise Pop into Industrial Grindcore and 1950?s-style romantic ballad.

The 2012 development of Come Heavy Sleep was co-commissioned by RSC PILOT Night, mac birmingham and Coventry University.  The 2013 development of Come Heavy Sleep has been commissioned by The REP.

Tickets are just £5 (£3 concessions) and available through the Birmingham Rep’s website.

(I’m hoping to go to this Friday night, if anyone fancies joining me.)

Speaking of PILOT Night – submissions are now open for the next one.

Here’s an excerpt from their announcement newsletter CiB received:

On Thursday 6th February 2014 PILOT Nights will land in Wolverhampton, hosted by the Arena Theatre. This is a chance for contemporary theatre makers to present up to 20 minutes of new, work-in-progress material, in front of a real live audience and industry peers. Artists will receive a small fee, professional photo and video documentation of their work, and feedback from the audience. In the week leading up to the performance, Arena Theatre have offered free rehearsal/development space.  It will also be a great opportunity to create links within the industry and meet future potential arts partners.

This is an unmissable opportunity for all kinds of theatre makers, not just from the Midlands but from across the UK.
