Bedlam: The festival of mad ideas

With one in four people experiencing some kind of mental health problem in the course of a year, Birmingham and Solihull Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust and Birmingham Repertory Theatre are joining forces to put mental health centre stage. BEDLAM The Festival of Mad Ideas, which runs from 1 – 9 November, will demonstrate how the arts can play an important role in reducing stigma around mental health and promoting recovery and wellbeing.

The most common mental disorder in Britain is depression and anxiety and mental ill health is more prevalent than many people realise, with 1 in 12 residents of Birmingham and Solihull having been referred to the city’s specialist Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust in the last five years.  The BEDLAM Festival, which has been shaped by people who have experienced mental ill health, will feature an exciting programme of drama, theatre, comedy, poetry, films, photography, discussions and workshops.
