Art SOAK – Free Arts Festival

2013-03-12 KL Art SOAK CiB

With plays in pubs, hair salons and supermarket car parks, string quartets and jewellery workshops in sport centres, and circus skills workshops and choirs in local parks – you’ll see there’s a jam packed programme of free and interactive arts activities taking place for Art SOAK, across the wider Selly Oak area over next weekend, 23rd-24th March.

Developed by Arts Forum Selly Oak, the community based arts festival returns for the second year running, providing an array of performance and participation arts events for local people.

Designed to breathe life into local High Streets, and providing a much needed boost for small businesses and neighbourhoods by engaging with the local community, Art SOAK is being backed by a number of organisations including Lifford Business Association which is behind a number of initiatives to bring trade to businesses in Stirchley and Cotteridge.

Art SOAK is taking place throughout Stirchley, Cotteridge, Billesley, Selly Oak, Bournville, Walkers Heath and Druids Heath. All events free, some pre-booking required. Full programme here. Festival organiser is Sabra Khan of Argy Bhaji Arts.

this festival sounds great, but was totally unaware of it until a small piece came onto the local bbc news. I actually live in the area. Its such a shame that there has not been more advertising as of course this helps with attendence of the events.
I hope that it all goes well, but maybe a local mail shot would have been great listing the venues and events, times etc..

  2. Hi Carol,

We listed it on CiB ten days ago, and it has been on local blogs in the area for several weeks now. The organisers distributed leaflets/posters in high street shops across the entire Selly Oak district. They have also been featured in the Birmingham Post and the Birmingham Mail.

Where would you have expected/liked to have seen it advertised? It’s always good to hear feedback from local community members, and perhaps anyone else reading this comment can take on your feedback too.

    Best regards,
    Kerry
