Here’s a round-up of few Christmassy events that have caught our eager eyes. Worth noting Area Guide’s December Issue and December Christmas listings are quite thorough, if you’re keen to find more activities to fulfil your festive needs.
Pop-up shops:
- Number 22 jewellery in the Great Western Arcade
- Festive Pop-up Bazaar #2 on New Street, same place as last year
- Neon Nest is Stirchley’s new independent retailer. Selling Christmas wreaths, vintage wares and expertly crafted handmade items.
Markets:
- Birmingham Frankfurt Christmas Market is on until the 22nd
- The mac have a contemporary craft fair this weekend selling Ceramics, Jewellery, Textiles, Woodwork and Visual art. (I went on Sunday, and spotted many Birmingham based stallholders including: Currentstate, Gosia Weber, and Becca Williams)
- Colmore Business District Christmas with Moseley Arts Market Friday 14th December, Birmingham Cathedral Grounds (note, following this in the same place is Flatpack’s film screening mentioned below)

Film:
- Flatpack‘s Silent Night on Friday 14th December is going to be fun – they’re screening a silent film in the Cathedral (with live music)
- The Electric have a range of Christmas films for your viewing pleasure, including White Christmas this weekend. They’re also screening Amelie, followed by a meal at Le Truc. (Part of Film Food Club Birmingham) Beautiful collaboration
- Stirchley Happenings are showing Scrooge at the Stirchley Community Church on Sunday 15th December
- Our friends at PROVIDE are showing Bomb It as part of PROVIDE Cinema at The Custard Factory on Tuesday the 18th December.
Theatre/Performance:
- Twelve dates of Christmas at The Old Joint Stock Theatre
- Christmas with the Rat Pack at the New Alexandra Theatre Birmingham
- The Wake at the mac is on this week up until Saturday. “Join a party (of up to thirty people) in this atmospheric setting for an extraordinary celebration of the passing year.”
- Barbara Nice’s countdown to Christmas – several dates at the Old Joint Stock Theatre and the mac.
And there’s:
- Winterfest at Warwick Bar – Friday 14th December – “The tenants of Warwick Bar will be opening it’s doors to offer an exciting programme of events for WINTERFEST. The event is free to all, and there will be generous supplies of hot food and drink for sale to help keep you toasty and warm” Ikon Youth Programme, Grand Union, Vivid Projects, and Stryx will be hosting a variety of events and exhibitions all within the vicinity of the Minerva Works building.
- Digmas at the Custard Factory “The Digmas Diner! 15/16, 22/23 Dec: Two, weekend-long pop-ups featuring gourmet street food, live music, a dazzling array of booze, art installations/exhibitions, interactive design, and weird and wonderful hand-made creations and Christmas gift ideas at the Digbeth Custard Factory, Birmingham.”
