A weekly round up of creative events happening around Birmingham this week, beginning Monday 13th August, through to Sunday 19th August.

Monday 13th

  • Kalaboration – artist talk with Keith Piper, 6–7pm at the Custard Factory. Keith presents ‘A Short Sprint’ video installation. 
  • Start of Brindleyplace Film Festival  Brindleyplace’s first open air cinema.
  • Oriental Art exhibition opens at Old Print Works, Balsall Heath 4–7pm “A sensory narrative by asian contemporary artists”.

Tuesday 14th

  • 8bit Lounge at the Hare and Hounds

Thursday 16th

  • Muzikstan free Festival – a free world music festival at Old Print Works in Balsall Heath.

Friday 17th

  • Hand in Hand for Syria, a charity gig at The Station, Kings Heath from 7.30pm
  • Likemind; coffee, chat, collaborate. From 8am, Saint Cafe on St Paul’s Square

Saturday 18th

  • From Tower Hill to Power Hill: Performance at the Drum by ‘Young Gifted Brum’ of stories from Jamaica to Birmingham.
  • Walking & Writing workshop led by poet & writer Helen Calcutt in Moseley Park. Places cost £14 per person and are open to all ages. For more information or to book email email@valleyprojects.org
  • The Flyover Show under the flyover at Hockley Circus
  • Teabags & Gladrags The Dance Workshop, Moseley. 18th August – Garment swap and creative meet.
  • ‘If Only I Could’  free circus performance at Birmingham Hippodrome as part of Six Summer Saturdays.
  • El Ghost Fest, 6.30pm at The Conservatory, the new venue at Muthers Studio in Digbeth.

Sunday 19th

  • www.TradArtsTeam.co.uk The Traditional Arts Team leads music sessions from 8-10pm on the third Sunday of the month at the Prince of Wales, Alcester Road, Moseley, Birmingham.
  • Museum Collection Centre (MCC) Open Day
  • As part of the Jamaica Gold season, the outdoor event A34 to Jamaica (at the Drum) presents a cultural day of creativity aimed at children,young people and their families. The festival takes place in Phillip Street Park with activities, food stalls and a fun fair, to keep the whole family entertained.
  • The start of Stockhausen Birmingham
