We showed footage from the first four Cross City Walks as an interactive treadmill-driven installation at the 2015 Flatpack Festival in an empty warehouse space above Centrala in Digbeth. By walking on a treadmill people could control the speed of the film as they walked across an ersatz Birmingham projected in front on them on a giant five by three metre screen.
Andy wrote an introduction which was shown next to the screen.
The installation was built on a near-zero budget using Arduino and Pure Data to connect the treadmill to the projector. Thanks to Nikki Pugh and Antonio Roberts for invaluable programming / wiring help and to BOM for hosting the build.
We would be very interested in doing something similar with an actual budget involving money. Please get in touch.
