RoguePlay members Kim Charnock and Lorna Meehan are bringing the trials and tribulations of working as an actress to the stage, taking ‘Portrait of An Actress…‘ on tour around Birmingham.

Portrait of An Actress As… explores the relentless struggle between artistic integrity and agreeing to underpaid roles just to add to the CV through a shamelessly bitchy collection of comedy sketches.

Along with the three date schedule, they’re also hosting a comedy improvisation workshop in conjunction with the show, with a session of ‘whose line is it anyway’ type games, providing hints and tips for great comic performances.

Capital‘s first Festival of New Writing is taking place at The Old Joint Stock between 22 – 27 November, bringing writers, actors and theatre makers together to celebrate developing work.

The festival will use the current political climate as a backdrop, offering an informal platform for participants to explore new work, ideas and audiences. They have also launched a competition asking ‘What’s your take on Cameron’s “Big Society”? Have you been affected by any of the issues raised?’, urging playwrights to create small plays about a big society.

To enter, take a look at the full details, and send your entry to catherine@capitalplays.co.uk by 5pm on Friday 12th November 2010.

For further information on events happening throughout the Festival, visit the Capital website.

From Me To 3792 http://www.createdinbirmingham.com/2010/10/22/from-me-to-3792/ Fri, 22 Oct 2010 07:49:18 +0000 http://www.createdinbirmingham.com/?p=7632 [Read more...]]]>

David Hendon’s From me to 3792 is coming to The Old Joint Stock on 27 and 28 October.

After premiering in 2008 as one of the original plays featured in the OJST’s New Writing initiative, ‘From me to 3792’ has gone on to be performed at the 2009 Edinburgh Fringe Festival and regional tours.

This entertaining one-woman show is about Diane, who has a seemingly idyllic lifestyle and would never have dreamed of writing to a total stranger, let alone a murderer, but she is not content with life and after a disparaging remark from her husband decides, on a whim and an article from the neighbour-from-hell’s Daily Mail, to write to a prisoner on death-row in America.

You can book on-line at www.oxboffice.com or phone 0121 200 0946 or email a reservation to oldjointstocktheatre@fullers.co.uk
