Holly Grange and Kate Pennington-Wilson are on curation duty:

For one night only the catacombs of The Vaults will be flooded with sonic reverberations inspired by the lives, past and present, of this renovated Victorian building. The mute histories contained within the walls will surrender their silence and seep out into your ears.

Artists include: Sarah Farmer, Rob Glover, EL Heath, Scott Johnston (aka Film Ficciones), Matt Eaton (of Pram)and Candice Jacobs.

The exhibition will be followed by a DJ set and archival footage from Birmingham-based music promoters COLOUR.

Here’s one of those Facebook events for more info. Cue picture:

For Capsule’s 10th birthday Film Ficciones created a little celebratory film. I’ve seen it a few times now and I’m pretty sure I’ll watch it a few more cos it’s great.

For the next CiB Project we’ve been asked to take part in Capsule‘s 10th birthday celebrations. We’re getting together a bunch of Birmingham creative types, putting them on a stage for 3 minutes and asking them ‘What would you do if you were given the run of a space like Vivid?’

Featured folks will include:

ATTA Girl, Scott Johnson aka Film Ficciones, Stephen Earl Rogers, James Yarker of Stans Cafe, local historian Ben Waddington, illustrator extraordinaire Ben Javens to name but a few

That list is from Capsule’s website.

There are 20 places left for spectators, so if you want to come along then please admin@capsule.org.uk. If it goes well it might be the first of many such events.

There’ll be full reporting back after the event, so if you can’t make it down then don’t worry.

  • something I said : Look Here!
Nice idea this – thinking about those huge banners used to cover up scaffolding – “So what happens a lot of times is that the banner is just a huge photo of the building – which is pretty cool. But what if the banner were more like experimental art? Or a photo of something else?”

Coming up at The Edge http://www.createdinbirmingham.com/2008/07/19/coming-up-at-the-edge/ Fri, 18 Jul 2008 23:57:41 +0000 http://www.createdinbirmingham.com/?p=1866 [Read more...]]]> Having promised to mention this before, I nearly forgot.  This summer:

Friction Arts will be collaborating with their US partners, Touchable Stories on a unique, living history arts project, attempting to reveal the true voice of Digbeth, Birmingham

There’ll be an exhibition and a series of other events including meetings, talks and dinners.  The first such event will be ‘Mining For Gold – a master class in oral history and community engagement’ from 3pm to 8pm on 25 July.  Shannon Flattery (Touchable Stories) will talk about work in some of the ‘third world’ communities in the US and Sandra Hall (Friction Arts and recently consultant to the Dutch culture dept) will present her own approaches to working, and making art.

There’s more general info on the Friction Arts site and here’s the flyer for this particular event:

Also coming up at The Edge, although I’ve not seen any info anywhere yet, Scott from Film Ficciones and Matt from Pram will be hosting some underground film nights.  I think that’ll be on Saturday 26 July but if anyone has any further info then let me know.
