Returning once again to our city is a late summer celebration of 2nd city and south american festivities. The Espirito Brum Festival will be taking over Digbeth, bring over a collection of Brazilian musicians and artists to mingle and perform with some of Birmingham’s creative types.

A little description for you:

An annual celebration of music, art and creative communities in Birmingham and Brazil, Espirito Brum is the UK edition of Espirito Mundo. Other European partners include Celles Sur Belle (Poitou Charentes), Aix en Provence, Paris and Madrid. Birmingham is the first and only UK city to partner in Espirito Mundo.

Espirito Brum supports an abundance of creative collaborations in Birmingham between visiting and local artists, taking shape in concerts, workshops, recordings, art installations, exhibitions, live performances, networking, and a resident shop space in New Street, Birmingham City Centre.

Venues so far include The Spotted Dog, The Edge, The Custard Factory and includes the greater Birmingham area, with events hosted in Ort Cafe and Kings Heath Village Square and the Hare & Hounds.

Check out the announced line up performers and events here. We’ll no doubt be heading down to one or two events, but we’d love to hear from you or see any photos you have from the Festival afterwards.

Cheers to Digbeth is Good.

Espirito Brum is the UK edition of Espirito Mundo, a cross cultural celebration bringing together musicians from Brazil and Birmingham, in a three day festival that forms the first stage in a ongoing global exchange.

This’ll run from 14-18 September and will have contributions from an impressive roster of organisations:

Espirito Brum is a collaboration between Espirito Mundo, Instituto Quorum (Espirito Santo, Brazil), Magpie Brown, Friction Arts, Spotted Dog, Oya Batucada, South Birmingham College and PST. It receives creative support from Marketing Birmingham, 7 Inch Cinema, Punch Records and Shakti Women.

On the subject of exotic festivals, I didn’t make it down to Jamaica Live on Saturday but, judging by the photo I’ve been sent by Ammo from Punch, I must’ve been in the minority.
