Love is Enough: runs at BMAG 25 April – 6 September 2015

Following a stint at Modern Art Oxford, Love is Enough, an exhibition bringing together two artistic legends, will be coming to Birmingham. Curated by Jeremy Deller, this visual feast of an exhibition launches today and will run until September. It features the work of Andy Warhol and William Morris, two artists you wouldn’t automatically draw together, but the exhibition draws several parallels, surrounding mass production and pattern making amongst other comparisons.

If you’re a fan of either artist, or indeed of patterns, it’s well worth a visit (I was lucky enough to see the exhibition in Oxford).

There’s a lovely selection of images of the team installing the artworks on the Birmingham Post site.

Louis Sidoli – Most Wanted http://www.createdinbirmingham.com/2010/11/16/louis-sidoli-most-wanted/ http://www.createdinbirmingham.com/2010/11/16/louis-sidoli-most-wanted/#comments Tue, 16 Nov 2010 12:50:55 +0000 http://www.createdinbirmingham.com/?p=8029 [Read more...]]]>

This new collection of work by Birmingham based artist Louis Sidoli, inspired by Andy Warhol, has taken the mugshots of twelve of the most notorious and iconic bad boys from popular culture.

The collection includes the likes of rock legends Mick Jagger and Kurt Kobain, Hollywood stars Frank Sinatra and Al Picino, plus gangster Al Capone.

A homage to 1960’s silkscreen portraits, Sidoli call the collection as “…a bit like Andy Warhol on steroids”.

Decide for yourself, ‘Most Wanted’ can be seen over on Washington Green’s site.

The Eternal Now – Andy Warhol at Ikon Eastside http://www.createdinbirmingham.com/2008/09/01/the-eternal-now-andy-warhol-at-ikon-eastside/ Mon, 01 Sep 2008 22:24:00 +0000 http://www.createdinbirmingham.com/?p=2014 [Read more...]]]>

From 4 September to 19 October Ikon Eastside will present The Eternal Now: Warhol and Film ’63-’68, organised with the Warhol Museum, Pittsburg:

Key films by Warhol and his collaborators are presented, from the earliest period of the Factory when Warhol announced he was no longer making painting

Some of Warhol’s series of Screen Tests will also feature, these were short video portraits of visitors to the Factory:

Ikon presents several reels showing individuals such as Lou Reed, Marcel Duchamp, John Cale, Edie Sedgwick, Billy Name, Lucinda and Ondine

This is the last event of the Ikon Eastside’s season – I think I’m right in thinking it’ll open again (in the same venue) in May 2009. The closing party goes by the name ‘Here & Now & The Future (Do you want to dance and blow your mind?)‘ and sounds fun:

Paying an affectionate homage to ‘The Exploding Plastic Inevitable’ and The Velvet Underground and Nico, “the most infuential and unpopular band in history”, there will be performance, film, light, oil wheels, music, dancing and marshmallows. Dress code is strictly black and white.

That’s on 31 October from 7.30pm til late.
